Darling in the Franxx Season 2 Will It Ever Happen?

The Question Is Still Here

[{"selector":"#anim-76ab4b19-d179-497e-bc8c-422d2c9e6b75 [data-leaf-element=\"true\"]","keyframes":{"transform":["translate3d(-14.843749783828871%, 0, 0)","translate3d(0%, 0, 0)"]},"delay":0,"duration":2000,"easing":"cubic-bezier(.3,0,.55,1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-c8c7c0b7-25e6-4442-b4df-e34a5e12e135","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-1c55d4bf-41de-4cdd-bb18-66e3a3dd82c7","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-3cb9f3fa-1881-4ef9-a9e1-9fc7a9907615","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] Fans have been asking about a second season of Darling in the Franxx for years. But has Season 2 actually been announced? No official Season 2 announcement has been confirmed.

What About Those Rumors?

[{"selector":"#anim-aaf695f4-3445-47c0-b76d-3a2f39471be7","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-3a5170ad-49bf-4e2b-9996-c6063d4b649d","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-765381d0-ee4a-462b-8e6b-3b4d5edcc348","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-053d6206-88ae-448b-88b3-164d4f9af958 [data-leaf-element=\"true\"]","keyframes":{"transform":["translate3d(-34.500000220744845%, 0, 0)","translate3d(0%, 0, 0)"]},"delay":0,"duration":2000,"easing":"cubic-bezier(.3,0,.55,1)","fill":"both"}] Over the years, rumors and social-media posts have claimed that Season 2 was coming. But rumors aren't announcements. There is still no official confirmation of a second season.

The Original Story

[{"selector":"#anim-fb853384-1bcb-48f1-8a69-e2aeb38eb545 [data-leaf-element=\"true\"]","keyframes":{"transform":["translate3d(-33.60091733168367%, 0, 0)","translate3d(0%, 0, 0)"]},"delay":0,"duration":2000,"easing":"cubic-bezier(.3,0,.55,1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-0035d246-aeb0-430e-bc6c-4d316ed90998","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-6766af66-4c0d-4a9b-8854-10654937db54","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-a05d7126-de72-4b7d-8938-b19067bba5da","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] The original anime told a complete story centered around Hiro and Zero Two . Its ending brought major parts of their journey to a conclusion. So where could a direct Season 2 even go?

Does That Mean the Story Is Completely Over?

[{"selector":"#anim-3c49ff7e-6aac-4bd7-9eb6-2f80bfd951d8 [data-leaf-element=\"true\"]","keyframes":{"transform":["translate3d(12.903608511842608%, 0, 0)","translate3d(0%, 0, 0)"]},"delay":0,"duration":2000,"easing":"cubic-bezier(.3,0,.55,1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-da3c9a32-dd41-4a55-b50f-5fa9d89c2c94","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-4f14b394-1b84-48e7-ae62-076c4db1e479","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-7ec0587d-bdad-426a-a255-1733b9c7265c","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] Not necessarily. The ending leaves room for fans to imagine what could happen beyond the original story. But that doesn't mean a continuation has been announced

Could We Get Something Else?

[{"selector":"#anim-e7022459-227b-4019-ae8d-29e5ddb22958 [data-leaf-element=\"true\"]","keyframes":{"transform":["translate3d(-35.351562411113854%, 0, 0)","translate3d(0%, 0, 0)"]},"delay":0,"duration":2000,"easing":"cubic-bezier(.3,0,.55,1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-7a6bced8-6905-48c7-a2ab-1f3f42d3a358","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-fd29d968-9102-496b-8338-3abc66555a0f","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-f1881dfe-eeb1-4134-bd0b-472e1e263baf","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] A continuation doesn't necessarily have to be Season 2. Fans have also imagined possibilities such as: OVA • Movie • New Project But these remain possibilities—not confirmed projects.

Why Do Fans Still Want More?

[{"selector":"#anim-fc3072c0-136d-4484-8f6e-06fc6480bf9b [data-leaf-element=\"true\"]","keyframes":{"transform":["translate3d(35.351562411113854%, 0, 0)","translate3d(0%, 0, 0)"]},"delay":0,"duration":2000,"easing":"cubic-bezier(.3,0,.55,1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-afd17789-e9d2-440b-9fea-31bab4157c0c","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-a51c7874-e3ef-4c37-b39b-90ba06bdeda8","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-9e4d1a56-fbb8-4eb2-bcf8-e0ab95d276e0","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] Because Darling in the Franxx left a lasting impression on many viewers. Hiro and Zero Two's story became one of the most recognizable parts of the series. And years later, people are still asking the same question: “Will we ever see them again?”

What We Actually Know

[{"selector":"#anim-825f35fa-0cca-40b8-99ae-cb2af622c84a [data-leaf-element=\"true\"]","keyframes":{"transform":["translate3d(46.65954414159819%, 0, 0)","translate3d(0%, 0, 0)"]},"delay":0,"duration":2000,"easing":"cubic-bezier(.3,0,.55,1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-dee48ad2-d856-43fa-9a5d-e5bc749dfa42","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-cac7c05f-69bd-4c33-b5a0-5c20fb831ac0","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-1712442b-ee5b-402f-82fa-7b470cb959f4","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] Here's the important part: Season 2 has not been officially announced. There is also no official release date to wait for.

My Take

[{"selector":"#anim-523fc806-51fb-4df3-a9f7-9fcca31c3de1 [data-leaf-element=\"true\"]","keyframes":{"transform":["translate3d(-3.7037037037037077%, 0, 0)","translate3d(0%, 0, 0)"]},"delay":0,"duration":2000,"easing":"cubic-bezier(.3,0,.55,1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-e2002af6-41f0-493f-9fc9-44a51c9f74da","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-3754458c-8c4d-4c6c-99e6-3a6937011e8b","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-9811b579-58af-44bb-9dde-894bd713f1a9","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] The original story already reached its conclusion. So rather than expecting a direct Season 2, I'd personally be more interested in seeing what kind of new story or project could be created within the Darling in the Franxx universe. But for now... We're still waiting. 😅

So, Will Season 2 Happen?

[{"selector":"#anim-417b3547-b80e-4151-915d-a4e803344d57 [data-leaf-element=\"true\"]","keyframes":{"transform":["translate3d(36.45019523028031%, 0, 0)","translate3d(0%, 0, 0)"]},"delay":0,"duration":2000,"easing":"cubic-bezier(.3,0,.55,1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-5728a9d8-a9a8-4317-9583-52062eca58fa","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-6637fa3f-59f9-406b-a526-ef3d9622438e","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] [{"selector":"#anim-68a68404-8e22-4737-8eed-0089694d0934","keyframes":{"opacity":[0,1]},"delay":0,"duration":600,"easing":"cubic-bezier(0.4, 0.4, 0.0, 1)","fill":"both"}] Maybe someday. Maybe not. But as of now, there is no official confirmation of Darling in the Franxx Season 2. Until an official announcement arrives, everything else is speculation.
