Well, we’re back with another day and another anime update!
And this time, instead of another manga getting an anime adaptation with a more familiar premise, we’re talking about something a little different.
Just think about it. What happens when a yakuza boss’s daughter develops an unusual interest in seeing strong people become vulnerable?
Well, yep! That’s pretty much where this story begins. 😂
Now, let’s just say that an ordinary romantic comedy probably isn’t what you should expect here. I mean, we already have a yakuza boss’s daughter with a rather unusual preference, so you can probably imagine that things aren’t going to be entirely normal!
Today, we’re going to talk about Wound & Bandage, the upcoming anime adaptation of the manga by Umihoshi Nanai. The anime adaptation has officially been announced, and we’ve also received details about its premiere date, main voice cast, production staff, and promotional videos.
The series is scheduled to premiere on January 9, 2027, according to the announcement we’re covering today.
So, what exactly is this series about? Who’s working behind the scenes? What can we expect from the upcoming adaptation, and when will we be able to watch it?

What Is Wound & Bandage About?
First, let’s talk about the manga itself!
Wound & Bandage, also known by its Japanese title Kizuguchi to Hōtai, is a manga written and illustrated by Umihoshi Nanai. It began as a one-shot manga in February 2024 before starting serialization on Kodansha’s Comic Days platform on August 27, 2024. It is also listed as a series published through Kodansha’s Monthly Magazine Base label.
Now, let’s get into the story!
The story revolves around Riyo Washizu, the daughter of a powerful yakuza family, and Go Kiritani, a young yakuza member who is assigned to look after her.
At first, Kiritani thinks Riyo is just a quiet, harmless girl. Looking after her doesn’t seem like a particularly difficult assignment. At least, that’s what he thinks!
However, there’s one small problem.
Riyo has a rather unusual preference. She’s fascinated by seeing strong people become weak or vulnerable. In fact, she even gives this particular interest a name: Yowarā.
And honestly, I’m sitting here wondering what kind of fantasy she has! 😂 I mean, imagine being assigned to look after someone and then discovering that this is what interests her.
Naturally, Kiritani soon discovers that taking care of Riyo might be far more complicated than he ever expected.
That’s essentially where the story begins. Their relationship develops through a series of unusual encounters, mixing romance, comedy, and plenty of awkward situations.
According to the official anime website, this is a romantic comedy centred on a young yakuza leader and the boss’s daughter, with a rather unconventional twist.
So, if you’re expecting a completely ordinary romance series, this might not be the one for you. But if you enjoy unusual character dynamics and comedy built around unexpected situations, Wound & Bandage might have a few surprises waiting for you.
Or at least, that’s what I’ve gathered from the official description! 😁

Wound & Bandage Anime Release Date: When Will It Premiere?
Now, let’s talk about one of the most important questions: when will Wound & Bandage actually be released?
Well, this time, we have a pretty direct answer because the premiere date has already been announced!
The Wound & Bandage anime is scheduled to premiere in Japan on January 9, 2027.
But what about streaming? Where will we be able to watch it?
According to the announcement, the series will air on ABC TV and the TV Asahi network as part of its ANiMAZiNG!!! programming block. AT-X will also broadcast the anime, while ABEMA will provide early streaming in Japan.
However, as of October 25, 2026, no international streaming platform has been officially announced.
So, if you’re watching from outside Japan, we’ll have to wait for further information before we know exactly where the series will be available.
Now, personally, I’d suggest keeping an eye on Crunchyroll! It could be worth checking when international streaming announcements start coming in. However, that’s just my personal suggestion, not an official confirmation that Crunchyroll has acquired the series.
There’s still time for more announcements before the anime premieres, so let’s keep an eye out for updates!

Who Is Behind the Wound & Bandage Anime?
Well, let’s talk about the people bringing this unusual romantic comedy to life!
The anime is being produced by J.C.STAFF, a well-known Japanese animation studio responsible for numerous anime productions. And before anyone starts judging the entire studio based on one series, let’s talk about its work as a whole!
For example, J.C.STAFF worked on One-Punch Man Season 2, a season that received plenty of criticism for its animation compared with the first season. But that isn’t the only project associated with the studio. It has also worked on titles such as The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., Toradora!, and The Familiar of Zero. And more recently, the studio has been working on the anime adaptation of Overgeared, which aring right now, in October 2026
So, let’s not judge every project by looking at just one production. Every anime has its own production schedule, creative team, and challenges. What matters now is how the team handles Wound & Bandage.
Now, moving on to the main staff!
Miyuki Ishida is directing the series, while Susumu Yamakawa is responsible for the scripts. Meanwhile, Natsuki Oyama is handling character design. The original manga comes from Umihoshi Nanai, whose story brings together romance, comedy, and a rather unconventional character dynamic.
And honestly, I’m still trying to wrap my head around some of the character dynamics in this series! 😂 But that’s part of what makes the premise stand out.
Voice Cast: Who Is Playing the Main Characters?
Now that we’ve covered the production team, let’s look at the voice actors bringing the characters to life.
Hisako Kanemoto as Riyo Washizu
First up, we have Hisako Kanemoto as Riyo Washizu, the daughter of the yakuza boss whose unusual preference drives much of the story.
If you’ve watched The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., you might recognize Kanemoto as Aiura Mikoto. She’s also known for voicing Ami Mizuno, better known as Sailor Mercury, in Sailor Moon Crystal.
Chikahiro Kobayashi as Go Kiritani
Next, we have Chikahiro Kobayashi as Go Kiritani, the young yakuza member assigned to look after Riyo.
Kobayashi has voiced several memorable characters, including Saichi Sugimoto in Golden Kamuy and Ranga in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
And finally, we have an additional cast member announced on October 23, 2026: Shoya Ishige as Ginsuke Hatobane.
Some viewers may recognize Ishige as Wakana Gojo in My Dress-Up Darling or as Leonardo El Vandimion from May I Ask for One Final Thing?
As for Ginsuke’s exact role in the story, we’ll need to wait for more information rather than make assumptions based on the casting announcement alone.
And that’s our current look at the people working behind Wound & Bandage! With J.C.STAFF handling the animation and these voice actors taking on the main characters, it’ll be interesting to see how the finished series turns out.

My Personal Thoughts
Well, honestly, I don’t really know what to say about this one!
Why? Because this isn’t exactly the kind of story I was expecting to see anytime soon.
But, well, I guess this is what we’ve got!
I have to admit that this isn’t the kind of romantic comedy premise you come across every day. We’ve seen stories with somewhat similar elements before, where the female lead has an unusual personality or the relationship between the main characters becomes more complicated than expected. But Wound & Bandage feels a little different from what I’ve seen so far.
Usually, we’re dealing with childhood friends, awkward confessions, love triangles, or a protagonist who somehow ends up in one unexpected situation after another. We’ve also seen stories involving yakuza characters and someone being assigned to look after another person.
But combining that setup with Riyo’s rather unusual preference? Well, that’s certainly a different direction!
And to be honest, this isn’t exactly my usual taste. I’m not going to pretend that the premise immediately made me want to put it at the top of my watchlist. 😂
However, that doesn’t mean I’m dismissing it either.
What interests me most is how the anime will handle the relationship between Riyo and Kiritani. A premise like this depends heavily on the characters’ personalities, comedic timing, and how the story develops beyond its initial unusual setup. If the characters and their interactions are entertaining, I can see how this could turn into something worth watching.
Another reason I’m willing to give it a chance is the studio behind it.
As I mentioned earlier, J.C.STAFF has worked on plenty of anime over the years. One example that’s particularly close to my heart is The Familiar of Zero, which remains one of my all-time favourites and comfortably makes my personal top ten.
So, when I see a studio behind a series that has produced anime I’ve enjoyed before, I’m naturally curious about what it might deliver next.
Of course, that doesn’t automatically mean every new project will become a masterpiece. But I’m interested in seeing what the team does with this particular story.
As for Wound & Bandage itself, I’d say I’m curious rather than completely sold on it.
The premise is unusual, the character dynamic sounds different, and there’s potential for some entertaining comedy. Whether the finished anime will actually win me over is something I’ll have to discover when I watch it.
So, yes, I’ll give it a try and see whether it manages to pique my interest!
And if you’re someone who enjoys romantic comedies with yakuza characters, unusual relationships, and plenty of awkward situations, you might want to keep this one on your radar, too.
You can wait for the anime adaptation or check out the original manga if you’d rather discover the story beforehand.
For now, I’ll keep my expectations open and see where this one takes us! 😁
