“Arifureta Review: From Betrayal to Triumph” – A Deep Dive into Seasons 1 and 2

Today, we’re going to talk about Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest! If you’re reading this, it probably means you’ve already watched it or are thinking about watching it. We’re going to cover both seasons and give a review.

Arifureta is an isekai anime that takes a different approach compared to other isekai series. While many isekai protagonists are overpowered right from the start, in this anime, Hajime Nagumo, the main character, is summoned to another world along with his entire class but ends up with a seemingly useless ability. Everything changes when he’s betrayed by his classmates, causing him to fall into the Abyss (the deepest level of the labyrinth). From there, a thrilling journey of survival and adventure begins. This anime also blends elements of romance with harem and lots of action.

If you’ve already watched Arifureta, you’re probably here to know my opinion on the anime and to see if you’re as excited as we are for the next season! Arifureta Season 3 has had its release date officially announced, and we’ve covered all the details. Click here to check out that blog as well!

So, What’s the Plot of This Anime?

Hajime is a typical high school student until he and his whole class are transported to another world. While his classmates receive powerful abilities, Hajime is left with the mundane skill of Transmutation. Ridiculed and bullied by his classmates, he finds himself alone and at the mercy of the dangerous world around him.

However, as Hajime struggles to survive, he begins to uncover the true potential of his seemingly ordinary skill. Through countless battles and hardships, he learns to harness the power of Transmutation in ways his classmates never imagined. His journey is one of transformation, both physically and emotionally, as he grows stronger and more resilient.

What Sets Arifureta Apart from Others?

One of the most compelling aspects of Arifureta is its departure from the typical isekai tropes. Instead of instant gratification and overwhelming power, Hajime must work hard to overcome his initial limitations. This slow-burn approach allows for a more realistic and relatable character arc, as Hajime’s growth is gradual and earned.

Additionally, Arifureta delves into darker themes than many other isekai series. The protagonist faces significant moral dilemmas and must make difficult choices. The series explores the consequences of his actions and the toll that his experiences take on him.

Personal Impressions: What I Like Most About This Anime?

I watched this anime almost a year ago, but as usual, before writing this review, I re-watched it to provide you with a thorough analysis. When I first watched Arifureta, I enjoyed the story, but I didn’t realize right away that it was a harem anime. To be honest, I was new to the harem genre at the time. When Hajime met Yue and their relationship developed so quickly, I didn’t want anyone to interrupt it. That’s why, when they introduced Shea Haulia in Episode 5 and Tio Klarus in Episode 9, I didn’t like it at first. However, I kept watching and eventually finished both Seasons 1 and 2.

One of the reasons I really like Yue is because of how deeply she cares for Hajime. From the early episodes, their strong bond is evident—right from their first meeting, they were willing to die for each other, which really struck me. Yue is also the one who saved Hajime when he was losing his humanity and struggling to trust anyone. She helped him regain his sense of purpose, and that’s why Hajime loves her so much.

As the anime progressed, it became clear that Hajime cared for the other girls too, but Yue always had a special place in his heart—she’s the one he loves the most, even as he gains more companions. I later found out that the author officially confirmed this, which made me appreciate their relationship even more. One of my favorite scenes is when Hajime says, “Anyone who stands in my way, I’ll kill them, even if it’s a god.”

I also enjoyed all the openings and endings of the anime, but I especially loved “Gedou Sanka,” the ending song from Season 2. Even while writing this review, that song is playing in my background. The action scenes in the anime are definitely some of the best highlights.

Who Would I Recommend This To?

Arifureta is a refreshing take on the isekai genre, offering a more grounded and thought-provoking narrative. The series’ strong characters and compelling storyline make it a worthwhile watch.

I recommend Arifureta for fans of isekai anime and action who are comfortable with harem elements and darker, revealing scenes. If you’re looking for an isekai that goes beyond the usual power fantasy, Arifureta is definitely worth checking out.

In Conclusion

Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest offers a unique twist on the isekai genre with its blend of action, romance, and deeper themes. Whether you’re a fan of the genre or new to it, this anime provides a fresh perspective that’s worth exploring. I’d love to hear your thoughts—did Arifureta live up to your expectations?
