Kobato, a boy with a mysterious past, and Osanai, a girl who is simply trying to blend in, aim to live the most ordinary lives possible. Let’s Dive into the Details of the Anime!
As I mentioned before, this anime has a slow pace and isn’t like other mystery series. However, it truly shines with its stunning animation. To be honest, the visuals are beautifully detailed from the very beginning, and the colorful art style adds a vibrant touch. Initially, the story gives the impression that it might be boring, but once I started watching the first episode, I was surprised at how quickly I finished it!
Let’s Talk About the Story and Main Characters!
Jougorou Kobato. From the start, he often expresses his desire to become ordinary, yet he always ends up solving mysteries. On the other hand, Yuki Osanai has a serious sweet tooth—she’s seen eating sweets in nearly every episode! Initially, I thought she might share the same problem-solving skills as Kobato, but we don’t see that side of her in the early episodes.
If I Were a Fox, Then She Used to be a Wolf. EP4
In episode 4, Jougorou told Kengo, “Me and Osanai are the same; if I were a fox, then she used to be a wolf.” At first, I thought he was just over-exaggerating. But even after finishing the episode, I still felt he might have been exaggerating because Osanai only seemed to uncover a culprit. She had problem-solving skills similar to Jougorou’s, but calling her a wolf felt like a stretch—wolves are always a step ahead compared to foxes.
All I could think at that moment was, “What the heck?! EP 9
After episode 4, the story continued to unfold with mysteries and twists leading up to a crucial moment. When Osanai is kidnapped in episode 7, Jougorou goes to great lengths to find and save her in episode 8. However, in episode 9, he confronts Osanai, asking, “You already knew you were going to be kidnapped, right?” That’s when we discover she had been manipulating everyone since before summer break. After watching episode 9, I was honestly shocked! It became clear why Jougorou compared himself to a fox and her to a wolf—she is much more cunning than he realizes. All I could think at that moment was, “What the heck?!”
“Breaking it off” sounds too much like we’re dating, Let’s just separate our ways! EP 10
After finishing episode 9, we arrive at the final episode, 10. In this episode, we discover that Osanai and Jougorou will go their separate ways, marking the end of their relationship. Jougorou realizes that his desire to become ordinary can never be fulfilled as long as he is with her. Although he tries to maintain their connection, he ultimately understands he has no power to stop her from ending their relationship, especially after realizing she has been manipulating everyone from the start.
Jougorou feels later anger towards Osanai, especially after Kengo becomes hospitalized while trying to save her. He realizes that she has been using him all along, which deepens his frustration and sense of betrayal. By the end of the series, both characters find themselves going their separate ways. Later, we see Jougorou meeting a classmate after school, and a girl confesses her feelings to him. Meanwhile, a member of the newspaper club expresses interest in getting to know Osanai. This introduces new characters and dynamics, hinting at exciting developments for the next season. Well, Season 2 has been officially announced! We’ve already covered when it will come out, so if you want to see the details, check it out here!
