Hey Lugh and Dia fans! I’ve got some very great news for you — well, we finally have the release month!
The second season of the anime was confirmed to be in production a long time ago, more accurately, on September 24, 2023. After almost three years of waiting, we now have a much more important update.
The World’s Finest Assassin Season 2 will begin airing in January 2027.
Alongside the release window, the anime has also received its first main promotional video and a new key visual. We have also received information about new characters and their voice cast.
So, after covering the possibility of Season 2 previously, we finally have much more to talk about.
So, let’s talk about what we know and what we’re going to get in Season 2.
The World’s Finest Assassin Season 2 Is Coming in January 2027
Well, let’s talk about the reason why you probably clicked on this Blog in the first place. Well, the biggest update: The World’s Finest Assassin Season 2 will premiere in January 2027.
The announcement was made on September 4, 2026, through their official anime website and social media. The announcement also introduced the PV, promotional video, first key visual, and information about the upcoming season.
Well, we still don’t have the exact premiere date for when it will be going to premiere, but at least we have something rather than nothing. At least they officially announced that the anime will be broadcast in January 2027. So, at least we now have a period for when it will come.
That means, as a fan, we don’t have to keep wondering when Season 2 will happen. After all, we have been waiting since 2023, when they announced that Season 2 was going to come. And now, at least, we have a month.
That’s all. It’s finally coming. And at the very least, we can finally expect to see when it will be coming.
A Recap of the First Season
Well, here’s a quick recap of the first season. If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance that you’ve already seen the first season, and writing a recap might be pointless. But there might also be new readers, or maybe some of my loyal readers who haven’t seen this anime yet but just came here to read the new updates.
So, this recap is just for them.
And I’m going to try to keep it as spoiler-free as possible.
The story follows a masterful assassin from Earth who meets an untimely death and is reincarnated into another world as Lugh Tuatha Dé, the heir of a noble family of assassins. Tasked by a goddess with a monumental mission—to prevent the world’s destruction by eliminating a powerful hero destined to bring about catastrophe—Lugh combines his previous life’s skills with the magical abilities of his new world. The result? He becomes the ultimate assassin, or as the title suggests, the finest assassin.
The first season of The World’s Finest Assassin masterfully blended elements of action, fantasy, political intrigue, and a touch of romance. It introduced a compelling cast of characters and a storyline that kept viewers hooked from start to finish.
We followed Lugh’s journey, witnessing his meticulous planning, exceptional combat skills, and brilliant strategic mind as he maneuvered through the dangerous world of nobility and assassination. Beyond the thrilling battles and schemes, the anime delved into deeper themes like duty, morality, and the heavy burden of responsibility, adding layers of emotional depth to the narrative.
(And if you noticed this, be silent, okay? 🤫 Yep, I copied this from my previous blog. You didn’t see that.) 🤫
The Main PV and the First Key Visual
Well, let’s talk about the PV. The PV was released alongside the announcement, giving us our first main promotional video for Season 2. The new PV gives us a lot to look forward to and gives us a better idea of what we are going to see in the upcoming season.
We are introduced to several new characters, which we are going to talk about in the next part. But apart from the new characters, we also get to see new environments and a glimpse of what the story is going to focus on.
As we saw in Season 1, the story ended with the introduction of a new character and showcased an academic setting, which is also seen in this PV. From what we can see, it looks like the story is going to move toward an academic setting this time, and we get a glimpse of that in the PV.
We also get to see more of Lugh’s journey, which we haven’t seen before. The trailer introduces many new and important characters, but the two new characters are probably the ones that caught my attention the most. We will talk more about them in the next section.
And now, let’s talk about the first key visual.
The first key visual for Season 2 was also released alongside the new information. The visual features our two main characters, the new characters who were also introduced in the PV, and the goddess, giving us our first major look at the direction of the new season.
Well, not going to lie, when I saw the first key visual, I kind of had a feeling that the goddess might be manipulating everything. But I don’t know whether that’s actually true or not. It’s just my personal opinion, okay? 😅
But judging by the visual, there is a chance that the goddess might have a slightly bigger role this time compared to the previous season. In the previous season, we mostly saw her at the beginning, along with a few glimpses of her throughout the story.
But this time, it looks like we might see her playing a more important role and getting some major screen time.
Who Was Behind the Scenes?
Well, from the information we are getting, the main production team from Season 1 is going to return for Season 2 as well.
Masafumi Tamura is returning as the director, while Katsuhiko Takayama is handling the series composition and screenplay. Well, it doesn’t really need me to tell you what they can do because they have already shown it in the previous season. So, I don’t think we need to go into their previous work because you already know about it, okay?
Eri Osada is responsible for the character designs, while Kenichi Kuroda is handling the music. The animation production is once again being handled by SILVER LINK.
So, ultimately, while Season 2 will be introducing new characters and expanding the story, the production will continue with the same key staff and members from the first season. And honestly, I think that’s a good thing. If the same team that handled Season 1 is returning, at least we know that the people behind the anime are not completely changing.
Returning Cast and New Characters
Now, let’s talk about the cast.
The main cast from the first season will be returning as well, with the original voice actors reprising their roles:
- Lugh Tuatha Dé — Kenji Akabane
- Dia — Reina Ueda
- Tart — Yuki Takada
- Maha — Shino Shimoji
Alongside the returning cast, two new characters have also been introduced for Season 2:
- Epona — Sumire Uesaka
- Neusch — Yusuke/Tomoaki Tonozaki
With both the original characters and these new faces joining the story, Season 2 is set to continue Lugh’s journey while expanding the cast around him. The story is going to continue, and that’s what we get from this information.
So, at least we can rest assured that Season 2 will have the returning cast and production team from Season 1. And hopefully, that means Season 2 can be as good as Season 1 was.
What to Expect in Season 2?
Well, Season 2 will most likely continue to follow the original story from the light novel. First of all, for those who don’t know, this series was originally created as a web novel. Later, when it became a little more famous, it was adapted into a light novel, and KADOKAWA also made a manga adaptation. So yeah, that’s that.
Now, what can we expect from Season 2?
Well, not going to lie, just like I said back in 2024, I don’t have the light novels for this series. So I don’t know how the story is going to continue or what is going to happen in the future. I can only expect things just like you would if you didn’t have the source material and didn’t know anything about it.
So, in this case, me and you are basically the same. We’re both spoilerless here. 🤷♂️
Maybe we can say that. 😅
So, let’s just go with what we can see from the upper layer. Well, even if I had the light novel, I still wouldn’t spoil it. But let’s talk about what I am expecting.
Most likely, we are going to see a new hero emerge, as the title suggests. We already got some hints about this in Season 1. Our main character was thinking about killing the hero, but it wasn’t actually a hero, as we found out in the last episode.
We also saw someone else who was considered a hero, and that was connected to the Academy setting where the last season ended. And now, with the introduction of the two new characters, Epona and Neusch, there is even more room for speculation about who could actually be the hero.
Personally, I think Epona is the one who is most likely to be the hero. We don’t know for sure yet, but considering the story and what we have seen so far, she is the character I would keep an eye on. Of course, this is just my personal theory, and I could be completely wrong. 😭
Since the new season appears to be continuing from the Academy setting, there is a good chance that one of these new characters could be connected to the hero that Lugh is supposed to kill.
And after all, that’s what the whole story is about. Our main character needs to kill the hero.
But as the story continues, there are still many things that are confusing right now, and many questions that need to be answered. Like, is what we are seeing actually right, or not?
I mean, I’m telling you what I see from the visuals and what I personally think about it. I might be 100% wrong, but that’s what I can say based on what we currently have. After all, we don’t have the source material, so this is the best we can do.
But personally, I’ll be keeping an eye on goddess—and not for the reason you’re thinking about. 😏
And I apologize for being useless for this section. 😅 But that’s what I can say.

When Can We Expect the Release Date?
Well, when we think about the release date, I’m not going to take much of your time to answer this question. The simple answer is that it will most likely be announced in November or December, or maybe it could even come earlier.
We will cover it when the exact release date is announced, so just bookmark our website. That will be helpful if you want to get the latest updates.
What else can I advise you? Just keep checking the official website from time to time, and follow their social media accounts so you can get a notification when the announcement comes.
But most likely, we can expect the release date announcement sometime in November or December. So, not the anime itself—the release date announcement.
My Personal Thoughts
Well, as I told you, I’m already going to keep an eye on the goddess for sure, but that’s aside. What I really want to see in the upcoming season is more screen time for Dia and our main character together.
Why? Because Dia is my favorite character in the entire series. Not going to lie, she is so cute, so perfect, and everything. And please, okay, stop saying in the comments that I’m being a simp for the silver-haired girl, okay?
(Yeah, if I am, so what’s wrong with it? White hair is so cute. And yes, I don’t care about it, okay?) 😭
Jokes aside, let’s come back to the topic.
Well, I love this anime, okay? Why do I love this anime? Because it is kind of unique. In the isekai genre, we have seen many types of anime, and there are many series with their own different premises. But The World’s Finest Assassin brings something different to the genre, especially with its premise and the way it approaches the story. That uniqueness is what caught me and kept me interested in the series.
I’m not going to lie, I also love its opening and ending. Both songs are solid. I’m someone who doesn’t know Japanese but can still vibe with them. 😅 I listen to them while I’m working, and yeah, they are definitely something I enjoy from the anime.
And that will be going to continue.
And obviously, I also want to see how the journey is going to continue and how the new assassination is going to happen. there are many things that are going to happen, and many interesting things are waiting for us.
So, yeah, I’m really looking forward to seeing how all of that is going to continue in Season 2.
