So, hello again!

Well, if you are a fan of The Apothecary Diaries, then I have some really great news for you, and I want you guys to pay attention to this. Why? Because it really has something that you will probably like. 👀

A new anime adaptation has just been announced: The Failure at God School, also known by its Japanese title, Kamisama Gakkou no Ochikobore.

The announcement was made on September 17, 2026—yep, just two days ago from the time I’m writing this—alongside the launch of the anime’s official website and a brand-new teaser visual.

And yeah, it’s pretty interesting.

Why did this announcement catch my attention?

The simple reason is the same thing you will understand when I tell you why this is such great news for The Apothecary Diaries fans.

Why?

Because the story was written by the same author who wrote The Apothecary Diaries.

Yep. It was written by Natsu Hyūga.

The manga is illustrated by Modomu Akagawara, and the series is currently serialized in Hana to Yume. The manga has already surpassed 1.7 million copies in circulation.

So, if you are hearing about The Failure at God School for the first time, don’t worry.

I’m the same. 😂

It was also new to me, so don’t worry about it.

So, in this blog, we are going to talk about the anime adaptation, the story, the source material, the cast, and everything we currently know about it.

So, are you ready?

Before we continue, let’s go to the next section, where we are first going to talk about what The Failure at God School is actually about.

What Is The Failure at God School About?

Well, the story takes place in a version of modern-day Japan where gods actually exist, okay?

And to be honest, it’s kind of a very unique premise when we think about it. Like, gods actually exist. We have seen that kind of anime before, but not in this variety, so it’s kind of a limited type of anime we’ve seen.

But there is an interesting twist—one which we don’t usually see—and that is what makes this story unique.

In this world, people with supernatural abilities are known as Himiko, and some of them can eventually become gods. It sounds simple and mysterious at first, but there is actually an official system for this, including schools, certification, and licenses.

Only people who obtain the proper certification can use the title of God. So, in simple terms, being a god is actually a title in this world—it’s not just someone randomly saying, “Yep, I’m a god.” 😂

And I think that title also comes with certain requirements and abilities as well. I mean, think about it: if you have a supernatural ability, does that automatically mean you’re a god?

It can’t be that easy, right? 😭

Well, think about it this way. If we also had an option to become a god, would you do it?

Me: Maybe. 👀

Well, back to the story.

Our protagonist is Nagi Hibiya, a high-school student who receives an acceptance letter from Kannagara Academy, a school attended by elite students with powerful supernatural abilities.

I’m not going to lie, when I first heard about the school and the main character, I was confused about the age of our protagonist.

But after looking into it, yep, Nagi is a high-school student.

There is just one problem.

Nagi doesn’t even know what her own divine ability is.

And because of that, she is quickly branded as a failure at the school.

However, the high-ranking god Tsukuyomi seems to sense that there is something special about Nagi.

As Nagi’s story continues, the mysterious power hidden inside her, along with her past and future, begins to reveal a much larger truth.

And the official description presents the series as a supernatural school story involving supernatural powers, school life, and intrigue/conspiracy.

And that’s what I was able to get from the information available about the series from thar website.

And about one more thing: our main character is a girl, not a boy. So we’re going to see this entire story from her point of view.

Well, yeah—it actually is. The manga is serialized in Hana to Yume, a shōjo manga magazine.

So, yeah.

A supernatural school, gods, mysterious abilities, and a girl who apparently doesn’t even know what her own power is.

Honestly, now I’m starting to understand why people were talking about this one. 👀

Who Created The Failure at God School?

Who Is the Creator of The Failure at God School?

Well, I already told you this part earlier, but let me tell you again.

This is probably one of the biggest reasons anime fans are suddenly paying attention to The Failure at God School, and why this announcement is getting more hype than you might expect.

The answer is simple.

This is a story written by Natsu Hyūga, the author behind The Apothecary Diaries.

Yep. The Apothecary Diaries.

And honestly, when you hear that name, you can already understand why people are interested. 👀

The manga is illustrated by Modomu Akagawara, and the series began serialization in Hana to Yume in 2021. It has now reached its 15th collected volume, which was released on September 18, 2026—literally yesterday as I’m writing this.

So, yeah, this isn’t some brand-new manga that started yesterday just because the anime adaptation was announced.

The manga has already been running for around five years, and now it has reached Volume 15.

And I’m not going to lie, one thing that makes me even more interested is seeing how Natsu Hyūga handles another long-running story.

Because we already have a pretty solid example with The Apothecary Diaries.

That series is still going strong, and we’re literally about to get Season 3 starting in October 2026, followed by its second cour in April 2027. There is also a new original movie scheduled for December 2026.

So, we already know that Natsu Hyūga is capable of building a story that continues for years while expanding its world and characters.

And I’m not going to lie—as a writer, I think very highly of her.

I really love her writing, and honestly, her work is also inspiring to me as a writer myself.

So, yeah, I have pretty high hopes for The Failure at God School as well.

The Failure at God School Anime Release Date

Well, this is the point where I need to tell you guys something.

We just got the announcement, so getting a release date this early is not really possible. Not at all.

Because we’ve seen this many times in the past. Sometimes an anime gets announced, and people immediately start expecting a release date, but the production simply needs more time. There are proper meetings, planning, production schedules, and a lot of things that need to be decided.

You just can’t announce everything in the very first announcement.

And we’ve seen cases where an anime was announced a long time ago, but we still didn’t get a release date for years.

But I don’t think The Failure at God School will necessarily take that long.

So, yeah, if you’re asking the same question, the answer is no—we don’t have a release date yet.

Why?

Because the official announcement simply hasn’t revealed one. That’s it.

The anime has only just been announced, so there is currently no confirmed release date.

Most likely, we could get more information in the next few months, or maybe toward the end of this year, which is already only a few months away.

So, yeah, we’ll have to wait.

And if you see someone saying that the release date has already been confirmed or giving you some exact date right now, please be careful with that information. There hasn’t been any official release-date announcement yet.

So don’t trust random rumors, okay?

Stay updated, because whenever we get an official release date, I’ll let you guys know.

Is There a Trailer Yet?

Not exactly.

What we currently have is a teaser visual, which was released alongside the anime announcement.

The visual features Nagi Hibiya, Tsukuyomi no Mikoto, and Tota Eto standing in front of a large torii gate surrounded by autumn scenery.

The official website and social media accounts for the anime have also launched, so we should expect more information to come later.

But as of September 19, 2026, there is no full promotional trailer that gives us a proper look at the anime’s animation.

Is There Anything More Than the Announcement?

Well, we didn’t get anything more than the announcement itself, but we did get one more thing alongside the anime announcement.

And that was a teaser visual, which you can see here.

The visual features Nagi Hibiya, Takeru Hibiya, and Tsukuyomi standing in front of a large torii gate, surrounded by beautiful scenery.

Alongside that, the anime’s official website and social media accounts have also launched.

And honestly, that’s something we should keep an eye on because now that the official website and social media accounts are live, we can expect more updates and information to come in the future.

But as of September 19, 2026, there hasn’t been any more official information beyond that.

So, for now, that’s basically everything we have from the first announcement.

My Thoughts

Well, to be honest with you, this wasn’t exactly the anime I was expecting.

Why?

Because I literally wasn’t expecting it. 😂

Not going to lie, if I didn’t know about it, then how was I even supposed to expect it?

So, yeah, I had pretty much the same reaction that most of you probably had. You know what I mean—the kind of reaction where you’re just scrolling through social media, and suddenly some influencer or anime account starts talking about this new anime and saying:

“You need to know about this because it was written by the same person who wrote The Apothecary Diaries.”

So, yeah, that was basically me as well.

I started seeing people talking about it on my Instagram feed, so I decided to do some research.

And that’s how I ended up here. 😂

But honestly, after reading about the story, researching the premise, and thinking about the concept itself, I have to say—it actually sounds really fun and interesting.

I haven’t read it, and I didn’t know much about it before this announcement, so I can’t really give you some huge judgment about the actual story yet.

But from the concept, the setting, and everything I’ve learned so far, it definitely caught my interest.

And that’s honestly all I can say right now.

Anything more than that would just be me judging a book without actually knowing the book itself, and that wouldn’t really be fair.

So, yeah, there’s enough here for me to talk about it as a critic and explain what I found interesting, but we still have a long way to go before the anime actually arrives.

Why?

Because, as I mentioned earlier, the first announcement doesn’t really tell us much.

They’ve basically just announced:

“Yep, this is getting an anime adaptation.”

That’s it.

We don’t know when it’s coming, which year it will premiere, when we’ll get the next update, who the main cast will be, which studio is behind it, or even when we’ll get a proper trailer.

A proper trailer is probably one of the last things we should be expecting right now. 😅

We’re not even at the starting line yet.

It’s more like we have decided that we’re going to run, but we haven’t even stepped onto the track.

But at least we know one thing for sure:

Someday, we’re going to see The Failure at God School as an anime.

And hopefully, that someday won’t be too far away. That’s what I’m hoping for.
