Hello again!
Today is the 22nd, and yesterday we finally saw the final episode of one of the most important storiesβone that, at the very least, gave us a sense of relief while also leaving our eyes wet.
Well, yep, I am talking about Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky.
This anime was one of those anime that everyone was keeping an eye on. It was also one of those stories where everyone just wanted to see the ending it deserved. And not going to lie, I was one of those people too.
I read the light novel way before the anime was even announced, but I was still watching the anime and wishing to see the story reach its ending.
Why?
Because you, the reader, and me, as a writer, both know that Kakeru and Koharu are fictional characters. They’re just characters inside a story, right?
But somehow…
they still matter to us.
And that’s exactly what I want to talk about today.

Before we talk about what happened in the last episode, though, I want to tell you guys something.
Before writing this blog, I was honestly confused about where I should put it.
Should I put it under Episode Review?
Should I put it under Anime Review?
Because this isn’t really just an episode review, and it isn’t an anime review either.
It’s something different.
It’s basically what I personally want to tell you after seeing this ending, what this story made me think about, and why I feel that the writing behind it deserves to be talked about.
So that’s why I decided to put this one in the Blog category.
And, well, there was one more reason.
There was a high chance that Google would index it without the problems we sometimes have with the Episode Review and Anime Review categories.
So yeah…
Blog it is.

Warning
Let’s talk about the final episode.
Well, before we talk about what happened in the last episode, I just want to give you a warning. If you haven’t watched this anime yet, please go and watch it first. Don’t read further because this section contains spoilers.
So, please don’t read this section if you haven’t watched the anime yetβor just skip the final episode section.
The Final Episode
Well, in the last episode, we finally see what happens after everything that Kakeru and Koharu have been through.
From the very beginning of the episode, we see Koharu finally confess the truth about her memory loss. Koharu had lied about losing her memories because she wanted Kakeru to create some distance from her.
And the reason was heartbreaking.
Koharu had found out that her cancer had reached stage four, and she didn’t want Kakeru to suffer because of her. She thought that if Kakeru believed she had forgotten everything, maybe Kakeru would be able to move on.
But Kakeru doesn’t accept that.

Kakeru tells Koharu what he really thinks and makes it clear that Kakeru isn’t going to give up on her, no matter what happens.
And then we get one of the most important moments of the episodeβthe last date Kakeru and Koharu spend together.
It’s not simply a date.
It’s one of those moments where you can feel that both of them understand how precious their time together has become.
We also see them experiencing the fireworks together. It’s not exactly a traditional fireworks scene, but the image and the way the moment is presented carry the same feeling.

And there’s one thought from Kakeru that really stayed with me.
Kakeru wishes that Koharu could live longer than Kakeru.
But then the thought changes.
Kakeru realizes that maybe it’s not about how long the fireworks burn.
Maybe what matters is how much that moment means while you’re watching it.
And honestly, this is where the fireworks stop being just fireworks.
Because that thought isn’t only about the fireworks.
It’s about life.
Sometimes we keep thinking about how long something will last.
How long we will have someone.
How many years we have left.
How long our happiness will continue.
But maybe the question isn’t always about how long.
Maybe it’s about what we do with the time we have.
And that’s one of the things I really loved about this ending.
We then get to see more of what Koharu actually wanted from her life.

The things she wanted weren’t necessarily huge or impossible dreams.
Koharu wanted a wedding dress.
She wanted to have children.
She wanted to experience a normal family life.
She wanted to visit her prison supervisor meetings.
She wanted to take pictures with her child.
She wanted to see her child grow up.
And eventually, she wanted to be there for her child’s coming-of-age ceremony.
These are all things that might look ordinary when you simply list them.
But for Koharu, they meant everything.
And Kakeru understood that.
That’s why, even after Koharu is transferred to Hokkaido for continued treatment, the story doesn’t simply end there.
Koharu continues fighting.
And for a moment, we are given that feeling of hope.
Koharu is going to continue her treatment.
Koharu is going to keep fighting.
Maybe things will be okay.
And then the story gives us the other half of the ending.
Koharu eventually leaves.
And we see Kakeru much older.
Kakeru is now also fighting cancer.
And then, only a few seconds later, we see a young woman.

And honestly, at the first glance, I think many of us already knew who she was.
Sakura.
Kakeru and Koharu’s daughter.
And that’s where the story reveals something that completely changes the feeling of the ending.
Koharu didn’t die at that time.
She fought.
And she won that battle.
She continued living.
She and Kakeru got married.
They had Sakura.
Koharu was able to experience the life she had dreamed about.

She became a mother.
She watched her daughter grow up.
She was there for important moments in Sakura’s life.
She even got to see Sakura’s coming-of-age ceremony.
The flashbacks show us all of this.
We see Kakeru and Koharu getting married.
We see them having a family.
We see their daughter growing up.
We see Koharu experiencing the ordinary life she had once been afraid she would never get.

And that part…
That’s everything we were waiting for.
Because after watching Koharu struggle so much, seeing that she actually got to live the life she wanted is incredibly important.
But then the story reminds us that life doesn’t stop being life just because we finally get what we wished for.
Koharu’s cancer eventually returned.
She had to fight it again and again.
And after many years of living the life she wanted, the cancer eventually took Koharu’s life. The epilogue establishes that Koharu was diagnosed with breast cancer at 45, after which the disease repeatedly returned before eventually taking her life.
And Kakeru also eventually faces cancer himself.
So even though Koharu is gone, Kakeru is still carrying everything they built together.
And then we get one final thing.
The voice diary.
The voice diary that Kakeru had given Koharu before her transfer to the hospital comes back into the story.
Sakura has it.
She brings it to her father.
And Kakeru listens to it again.
And through that recording, we learn something incredibly important.
Koharu didn’t leave this world with regret.
After everything she had been through, Koharu didn’t regret the life she lived.
She had loved someone.
She had gotten married.
She had become a mother.
She had watched her daughter grow.
She had experienced the ordinary life she once dreamed about.
She had created memories.
She had lived.
And that is how the final episode ends.
Kakeru is still fighting his own cancer and preparing for his next treatment.
But he’s carrying Koharu’s memories with him.
And somehow, after all the tears this episode gives us, there is also a strange sense of relief.
Because yes…
we cried.
But at the same time, we also got to see that Koharu lived the life she wanted.
And maybe that’s why this ending hurts so much while still feeling, in its own strange way, like a good ending.

More Than Just Words
Well, this is a new section. What are we doing here now?
I already gave the episode review in the section above. So, if you came here only for the review, you can read that part and leave. But if you continue reading, then there are only two reasons why you might still be here.
Maybe you’re one of my daily readers.
Or maybe you’re curious about what this section is actually about.
Well, let’s take it from here.
More Than Just a Firework
Is it really just a firework?
I don’t think so.
I think the same thing can apply to everyone’s life. Of course, it is different for every person. Everyone wants to live, but no one can control exactly how long they will get to live.
What we can control, at least to some extent, is how we choose to live that life.
Remember what Kakeru thought?
He wanted Koharu to live longer than him. But then he realized that maybe it wasn’t about how long the firework burned.
It was about how bright it was while it was there.
And I think that same thing can apply to all of us.
If we look at a firework, is the first thing we ask:
βHow long is this going to burn?β
No.
Nobody looks at a firework and says:
βWhy should I enjoy this? It’s going to disappear.β
We simply watch.
We enjoy it.
We look at how bright it becomes.
And then, eventually, it disappears.
And maybe life isn’t that different.
We sometimes think something needs to last forever to have meaning.
A relationship needs to last forever.
A memory needs to stay forever.
A moment needs to continue forever.
A dream needs to become permanent.
But maybe that’s not how life works.
Some moments are beautiful because they are temporary.
Some people enter our lives for a certain amount of time.
Some memories stay with us even after the people involved have moved on.
Some dreams change.
Some relationships change.
Some chapters end.
And yet, that doesn’t mean those moments were meaningless.
Just like fireworks.
They disappear.
But we still remember that we saw them.
And in the same way, maybe one day we will look back at our own lives and remember the moments we had while we were alive.

My Personal Take
Well, about the anime itself, I really appreciated it. It was heartwarming, emotional, and honestly, everything I wanted from a story like this. For me, it is one of those series where I can easily give it a 9.9 or even a 10/10. That’s my personal rating for the series.
But I don’t think I need to spend too much time talking about the rating. Let’s talk about what this story actually made me think about.
We’ve seen stories like this before. Some of them end up hurting us, and we already know that. But at the same time, we also know that this is part of the harsh reality of life. Maybe that’s also what the writer was trying to show usβhow life actually exists outside of the perfect stories we sometimes want to believe in.
We can’t deny the fact that we live in a world where, even with modern technology and advanced medicine, we still can’t save everyone. Not every disease has a cure, or at least, we don’t have a solution for every disease yet. And I know this is an anime. Fiction is fiction. But somehow, stories like this can still touch something real inside us.
We’ve seen it before in anime like I Want to Eat Your Pancreas and Your Lie in April. They are different stories, but they also leave us with that same feelingβthe kind of story that hurts because somewhere inside it, we can recognize something about real life.
And that’s one of the reasons I appreciated this series so much.
As a writer, I think about this a lot. Why would someone create a story like this? Why write something that can make people cry or feel pain?
For me, one reason is to create something that can reflect human pain.
Not real life itself, but something that can reflect the emotions people experience in real life.
And maybe also remind people that what you have right now isn’t worthless.
No matter how bad your days become, no matter how much you think your life is going nowhere, maybe it isn’t as worthless as you sometimes believe it is.
That’s what I took from this story.
And now, let’s talk about the part that actually became one of the reasons I wanted to put this article in the Blog category.
I’ve already talked about the fireworks, but this isn’t only about the fireworks.
This is my personal opinion and my own view of life. You don’t have to accept it, and you don’t have to agree with me. I’m not some motivational speaker who is going to tell you how to live your life.
I’m just telling you how I see it.
As someone who dreams very highβeven when the dream sometimes feels almost impossible to achieveβI still keep taking one step at a time. And honestly, after all these years, I can finally see that dream.
Maybe it’s still very far away.
Maybe I’m still looking at it from a long distance.
But five years ago, I couldn’t even see it.
And now I can.
I think that’s something important about dreams. Everyone has their own. Everyone is the main character of their own story, and everyone has a different path.
I might be wrong about this, and I’m saying that again because I don’t want to pretend that my way of thinking is some universal truth. But I believe everyone has dreams. The problem is that not everyone can follow those dreams in the same way.
Some people have different lives. Some have different situations. Some have responsibilities they can’t simply leave behind. And some people follow their dreams for a while before leaving them somewhere in the middle.
Why?
Because chasing a dream doesn’t automatically put food on your plate. It doesn’t always pay your rent. It doesn’t guarantee success.
I understand that part.
But still, I believe that dreams matter.
Sometimes the dream isn’t even something huge.
Sometimes it’s just having your own family. Coming home tired after work and finding someone waiting for you. Someone welcoming you home. Someone who knows you, someone who is different from everyone else because they are your person.
You can become extremely rich or live a very simple life, but I think that kind of dream exists for a lot of people.
And maybe that’s what makes it beautiful.
Not every dream needs to be extraordinary to be meaningful. Sometimes the smallest and simplest dream can mean everything to someone.
My team member: βSo that’s why you’re chasing your dream?β
Me: βMaybe. So that someday, I won’t have to regret not trying.β

(Authorβs Note)
Well, life is just simple sometimesβand sometimes it takes a few unexpected turns. I’m not going to lie, when I started writing this, I thought it would take around 20 minutes.
This blog was originally supposed to come out on the 22nd. But somehow, things kept getting in the way.
On the first day, I got a little fever in the afternoon, so the blog was delayed. On the second day, we had server maintenance. And now, here we are, around 1 AM on September 25th, doing the final editing.
And yeah…
I turned 20 today.
So now it sounds a little differentβalmost like this blog was written for my birthday. But it wasn’t. It just happened that way.
Whatever I talked about in this blogβthe fireworks, dreams, life, and everything in betweenβthose are simply my personal thoughts. It’s how I see life from my own perspective. I might sound a little older sometimes, but I’m not. I’m just a 20-year-old guy who writes and puts his thoughts into words.
I hope you liked today’s blog, and I hope you enjoyed reading it.
And yeah… today you’re getting three blogs from me.
Three blogs. One day. Somehow, we made it.
