Well, another day and another anime update topic. πŸ˜…

Today is September 25th, and I was thinking about what I should write about. And then, well, we finally got something new for Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! after more than a year of waiting.

Yesterday, we got a brand-new collaboration poster, and alongside that, we also got new information about an upcoming event related to Makeine.

So, you might be wondering:

β€œWait, wasn’t Season 2 already announced?” πŸ˜…

Well, yes!

The production of Season 2 was actually announced last year, in 2025. So this isn’t exactly a new Season 2 announcement.

What we got yesterday was a new update after that long silence.

And that’s what we’re going to talk about today.

Why did we suddenly get this new Makeine update after more than a year? What is this new collaboration poster about? What is happening? And, most importantly, when are we finally going to get Season 2?

So today, we’re going to talk about all of that in this anime update.

So Let’s State

Makeine Too Many Losing Heroines!

What Is Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!?

Well, most of you probably already know about this anime. But if you’re one of those people who haven’t watched it yet, let me be the one who introduces this story to you guys. And for those who already know it, well, this can just be a little refresher and some extra information. πŸ˜…

Well, Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! is originally adapted from the light novel series written by Takibi Amamori, with illustrations by Imigimuru.

The light novel series started publication in 2021, and the anime adaptation later brought the story to a much wider audience.

And now, let’s get to the plot.

Well, I’m not going to give you a detailed explanation of the entire story. I’m just going to tell you what it’s basically about. And, to be honest, you might actually like this one.

Makeine Too Many Losing Heroines!

The story follows Kazuhiko Nukumizu, our MC, an ordinary high school student who has no friends and unexpectedly becomes involved with several girls.

And when I say several girls, I really mean several girls. πŸ˜‚

Well, back to the point.

They’re all girls who have ended up on the losing side of romance. Yep, they all got rejected by the person they loved.

Among them, we have one blue-haired girl, and she’s my favorite. And if you’re someone who hasn’t watched the anime yet, she might become your favorite too.

And if you’ve already watched it…

Hey, you. Yep, I’m talking to you. πŸ˜…

She’s probably your favorite too, even if you don’t want to admit it.

Wait, sorry, I got out of topic again.

Back to where we were.

Oh yep, the blue-haired girl is Anna Yanami, the first girl we meet and basically the starting point of everything.

She’s the type who really loves good food. And honestly, if you leave her alone, she might just barge in and start talking about money. πŸ˜‚ You’ll understand what I mean after watching the first episode.

Then we have Lemon Yakishio.

At first, when I heard her name, I honestly thought Lemon was some kind of nickname. No offense, but I never knew Lemon could actually be someone’s real name. πŸ˜‚

But yep, her name really is Lemon.

She’s an athletic type and another one of the losing heroines. She’s also energetic and has a completely different personality from Anna.

And then we have Chika Komari, a shy and cute heroine who is also part of this group.

And there is one more girl, but I’m going to leave her for later because she hasn’t really been properly introduced in the anime yet. πŸ˜… And I also don’t think she exactly fits into the same β€œlosing heroine” category.

Anyway, back to the main point.

Instead of focusing only on the heroine who wins the romance, this anime does something completely different.

The series gives the spotlight to the girls who got rejected.

And that’s basically where the whole idea of Makeine comes from.

Too many losing heroines. πŸ˜…

Season 2 Is Officially in Production

Well, then let’s come to the point where most of you guys actually came to read this. πŸ˜…

After More Than a Year, Makeine Finally Has a New Update.

Well, the news was officially announced on April 6, 2025, last year, during the Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! special fan event β€œTsuwabuki High School Literature Club Extracurricular Activities,” held in Akishima, Tokyo, where it was announced that production of the second season had been decided, and the official anime website also confirmed it.

But after that announcement, honestly, we had a pretty long silence. And now, more than a year later, we finally have something new to talk about.

Yesterday, on September 24 2026, we got a brand-new collaboration poster for Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! and Toyohashi City.

Well, in the new visual, we can see the four main members of the Literature Clubβ€”Anna Yanami, Lemon Yakishio, Chika Komari, and our MC, Kazuhiko Nukumizuβ€”walking along the main street in front of Toyohashi Station after shopping.

Well, the poster was part of the ongoing collaboration between the anime and Toyohashi City, which is also the real-world setting of the series.

But that’s not all.

There was more than just the new visual. We also got news about an upcoming β€œAnime Too Many Losing Heroines! Talk Stage in Toyohashi Festival 2026.”

The event is scheduled to take place on October 31, 2026, at Toyohashi City Public Hall as part of Toyohashi Festival 2026.

The main cast is scheduled to appear as well, including Shuichiro Umeda as Kazuhiko Nukumizu, Hikaru Tono as Anna Yanami, Shion Wakayama as Lemon Yakishio, Momoka Terasawa as Chika Komari, Minami Tanaka as Kaju Nukumizu, and Akira Sekine as Asami Gondo.

So, while this isn’t the Season 2 release date announcement we’ve been waiting for, it does give us something new after that long silence.

And honestly…

The losing heroines are coming back! πŸ˜‚

For anyone who watched the first season, this is definitely an update worth keeping an eye on.

Or at least for me, because I watched the full first season. πŸ˜…

What to Expect From October 31, 2026

Well, on October 31, 2026, the upcoming Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! talk stage will take place as part of Toyohashi Festival 2026.

Now, we don’t actually know what the event is going to reveal yet. But after more than a year without any major update about Season 2, this event definitely makes things a little more interesting. πŸ‘€

We already know that Season 2 is in production, but we’re still waiting for more details about it. So naturally, the big question is:

Are we finally going to get some new information about Season 2?

Maybe we’ll get a release window.

Maybe we’ll get a new visual.

Maybe we’ll get something completely unexpected.

Or maybe…

nothing about the release date at all. πŸ˜‚

We simply don’t know yet.

But that’s what makes October 31 interesting. After such a long wait, we finally have an official Makeine event with members of the main cast appearing together again.

So, for now, there’s nothing left to do except wait and see what happens. πŸ˜…

And honestly…

I’m waiting too. πŸ‘€

My Personal Thoughts

Well, I really like this series. This anime actually picked my interest while it was airing, and I was one of those people who waited every week for the next episode.

And you might be wondering, what’s so special about that?

Well, as someone who works as a critic, it’s actually pretty rare for me to wait for a series and just watch it every week unless I really like the anime.

Normally, when I’m covering an anime for writing purposes, I’ll watch the first three or four episodes together once they are available, so I can properly remember the story, characters, and everything that’s happening before I start writing about it.

That’s different when I’m doing an actual episode review. In that case, I’ll watch the episode individually and write about that specific episode.

I like a lot of anime, but when you’re doing this professionally, you end up watching all kinds of anime. And honestly, I wasn’t even able to cover every famous anime on time while they were airing. πŸ˜… And don’t forget that there were so many anime coming out that became big topics and everyone was talking about them.

So yeah, the fact that I kept following Makeine this closely says something.

And well, you already know who my favorite girl is, right? πŸ˜…

But to be honest, there’s one thing I really want to know about Season 2.

Where is the story going from here?

Are they going to continue following the source material, or are they going to take a completely different direction?

I’m asking this because the first season already showed us that the anime isn’t afraid to do something different from the source material. In fact, the entire 12th episode was an anime-original story written by the original author, Takibi Amamori.

And I’m not going to lie, I like almost every character in this series, including our MC, Kazuhiko Nukumizu.

But there are a couple of moments from Season 1 that have really stayed in my mind.

Makeine Too Many Losing Heroines!

One of them is that rooftop scene with Anna.

At that moment, Anna is already thinking that Nukumizu might be about to say something that could be taken romantically. But what he actually wants to ask her is much simpler.

He wants to ask her to be his friend. πŸ˜…

And the funny part is that Anna’s reaction makes the whole situation look completely different from what Nukumizu actually meant.

It was really funny, and at the same time, I was like:

β€œWhy don’t you two just go out already?” πŸ˜‚

And then we have that final Ferris wheel scene.

Makeine Too Many Losing Heroines! Ep 12
Makeine Too Many Losing Heroines! Ep 12

That scene left me with a huge question mark. πŸ˜…

What exactly was happening there? πŸ‘€

Because that entire episode was anime-original, meaning that Ferris wheel scene wasn’t something we could simply look up in the light novel and say, β€œOkay, this is what happens next.”

The scene clearly plays with the possibility of something romantic between Anna and Nukumizu, but it doesn’t actually confirm what their relationship will become.

And it’s not only you…

I also want to know what happened there! πŸ˜‚

And that’s exactly why I’m curious about Season 2.

Will they continue from what the light novel established, or will the story move in another direction?

We don’t know yet.

And honestly…

That’s one of the things that makes me want to see what happens next. πŸ˜…

Fun Fact: How Makeine Was Inspired

Well, do you know that Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! actually came from another anime?

The author, Takibi Amamori, revealed in an interview that the series was inspired by one of the well-known anime series, DARLING in the FRANXX β€” specifically Ichigo, the blue-haired childhood friend of the protagonist.

If you remember the story, Ichigo originally had feelings for Hiro, but Hiro saw her more as a friend. Meanwhile, Zero Two became the person Hiro ultimately chose.

While watching the series, Amamori noticed that Ichigo had many of the characteristics of a losing heroine, and of course, she eventually lost to the main heroine, Zero Two.

And that’s where the idea started.

He began thinking:

β€œWhat would happen if the childhood friend actually won?”

But then he realized something.

If the childhood friend wins, another girl simply becomes the losing heroine.

And that’s when the idea really started to take shape: instead of focusing on the heroine who wins, why not make the losing heroines themselves the focus of the story?

And honestly, I think that’s a pretty interesting way for a series like Makeine to begin. πŸ˜…

The author was thinking about all these losing heroines getting rejected in love, while here we are talking about them… and we don’t even have a love life in the first place. πŸ₯²πŸ˜‚
