Well, hello again! Another day, another anime update!
And today, we have another manga that’s finally getting an anime adaptation. But here’s the funny part: this manga already has a live-action adaptation, and we even got its second season last month! Yep, I’m not even kidding! 😅
And you might have guessed it already by now. I’m talking about Happy Kanako’s Killer Life! Yep, the manga that already has a live-action adaptation is now getting an anime adaptation as well.

The anime was officially announced on October 16, 2026, by TOHO animation, along with its release schedule. The series is scheduled to premiere in April 2027, and the announcement also revealed the first teaser visual, promotional video, and main cast.
Not going to lie, when I heard that this manga already had a live-action adaptation, it piqued my interest because that’s a pretty different route compared to what we usually see. And now, it’s getting an anime adaptation too! 😅
So, in today’s blog, we’re going to explore what Happy Kanako’s Killer Life is all about, take a look at the first visual and the character information revealed so far, and cover the other details we know about the upcoming anime.
First, Let’s Talk About the Original Manga!
If you’re like me and are hearing about this series for the first time after the announcement, then let me introduce you to the story! But before we get into the main plot, let’s first understand who created this manga and how it all began.
The Japanese title is 幸せカナコの殺し屋生活 (Shiawase Kanako no Koroshiya Seikatsu), written and illustrated by Toshiya Wakabayashi. It’s a four-panel comedy manga, also known as 4-koma, where the story is presented through four panels. It’s a simple format, often used for short comedic stories, and you can think of it as a style commonly found in webcomics.
The manga began as a webcomic on the author’s Pixiv account in October 2018. It later began regular serialization on Twi4 and the Saizensen website in April 2019. The series is published under the Seikaisha Comics imprint, while Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the English edition. By May 2026, nine collected volumes had been released.

But here’s something interesting: the manga already had a live-action adaptation before the anime was announced! The live-action drama was announced in 2024, with its first season premiering on DMM TV in Japan on February 28, 2025.
And guess what? The second season only recently finished airing! It began streaming on September 17, 2026, and released its final episode on October 8. The drama stars Non as Kanako Nishino and Taisuke Fujigaya as Sakurai, with both returning for the second season.
Now, if you’re from Japan or regularly watch Japanese dramas, you might already be familiar with these actors. But if you’re like me and haven’t watched the live-action adaptation, let me know in the comments whether it’s worth checking out! I might give it a try myself. 😁
Well, that’s enough about the manga’s background and live-action adaptation. Let’s get to the main question.
What Is Happy Kanako’s Killer Life Actually About?
The story follows Kanako Nishino, an ordinary office worker who quits her exhausting job at a black company after being pushed to her limit. Hoping to find a better workplace, she starts searching for a new job. But, as we all know, life doesn’t always go according to plan!
Kanako discovers that the company offering her a job is actually an assassination agency. Yep, you read that right! Her new career involves killing people, and somehow, the working conditions are surprisingly attractive.
The starting salary is 60,000 Yen , with weekends and public holidays off, along with employee benefits. Not going to lie, when I first read that figure, I had to check the number of zeroes more than once! I mean, are they hiring ordinary office workers too, or do I need to become an assassin to get those benefits? 😂
Despite her lack of confidence, Kanako discovers that she has a natural talent for assassination. Her new life brings her into contact with Sakurai, her blunt and somewhat intimidating senior coworker, as well as the company’s president, whose frightening appearance hides a surprisingly kind personality.
And that’s the basic premise! The story combines workplace comedy with the absurdity of Kanako’s unexpected new profession. Instead of following the usual path of an ordinary employee trying to climb the corporate ladder, we have someone who accidentally finds a career in assassination—and discovers she’s surprisingly good at it.
Not going to lie, this premise has definitely caught my interest. As I mentioned earlier, the fact that the manga already has a live-action adaptation, with its second season having just finished, makes the upcoming anime even more interesting to me. It’s not every day we see a series follow this route!
When will Happy Kanako’s Killer Life Premiere?
Well, I already told you about this earlier, but let me give you a quick update. The anime is scheduled to premiere in Japan in April 2027. However, the production team hasn’t announced the exact premiere date yet.
To be honest, I think this is good enough information for now. I mean, the anime was only just announced, and we already have a teaser PV, a teaser visual, and information about the main cast. So, I guess that’s pretty good!
As for international viewers, we don’t have any information about a streaming platform yet, which is something we usually look forward to knowing. Most likely, we’ll get more information as we get closer to the scheduled premiere.
For now, April 2027 is our confirmed release window. We don’t have any further details, so we’ll just have to wait. And don’t go believing every rumour you come across! Most likely, we’ll hear more about it next year, so let’s wait for the official announcement.
Now, let’s move on to one of the most important topics: who’s behind the Happy Kanako’s Killer Life anime? Let’s talk about the people bringing this series to life!

Who Is Behind the Happy Kanako’s Killer Life Anime?
The Studio Behind the Anime
Well, when it comes to the people behind this anime, we have some familiar names here!
First, let’s talk about the studio responsible for bringing this series to life. The anime is being produced by Studio Drive, the same studio that worked on KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! Season 3 and Go for It, Nakamura-kun!!. Yep, we’re talking about the studio behind those comedy anime!
Now, let’s talk about the director. The anime is directed by Shinji Takamatsu, who is also handling the series composition and scripts. Well he known for his directing comedy series such as Gintama, Kochikame, and Grand Blue Dreaming. So, with someone experienced in comedy leading the project, there’s reason to be curious about how he’ll handle Kanako’s rather unusual career change!
And for the character designs, that responsibility goes to Yoshiyuki Okubo, who is also serving as the chief animation director. With a story that mixes workplace struggles, comedy, and an assassination agency, the character expressions and timing of the jokes will be especially important.
After all, Kanako’s reactions to her new workplace are part of what makes this premise so entertaining!
Of course, we’ve only seen the teaser PV and teaser visual so far. We’ll have to wait for more footage to see how everything turns out in the final anime. And considering that the series has such an unusual premise, I’m curious to see how the studio brings its comedy to life. Let’s hope they deliver something fun to watch!
Now that we’ve covered the studio and the main staff, let’s move on to another important part of the anime: the cast! Who’s going to bring Kanako and the other characters to life?

Who Is Behind the Characters? Meet the Voice Cast!
The first announcement introduced us to three main characters and the voice actors who will be bringing them to life. So, let’s talk about who’s playing Kanako, our main character, and her colleagues as well!
First up, we have Hana Tamegai as Kanako Nishino, our protagonist. This will be her first leading role in an anime, and she’s excited to have this opportunity. She was already familiar with the original manga and is looking forward to seeing how its comedic timing and atmosphere translate into anime.
Next, we have Ryota Suzuki as Sakurai, Kanako’s senior coworker. You might recognise him as Ryusui Nanami from Dr. Stone or Yu Ishigami from Kaguya-sama: Love Is War. Yep, he’s the voice behind these characters, and this time, he’ll be playing the cool and composed Sakurai!
Suzuki also talked about the challenge of playing a serious character in a comedy. While everyone else is busy creating chaos, he has to keep Sakurai’s cool personality intact. Well, not going to lie, that sounds like a difficult job in itself!
Finally, we have Junichi Suwabe as the company president, Kanako’s boss. His well-known roles include Shota Aizawa from My Hero Academia and Ryomen Sukuna from Jujutsu Kaisen. Yep, he’s the one who gives Sukuna that unmistakable voice! To be honest, I’m quite interested to see how he’ll portray Kanako’s boss this time around.
Now, the cast members have also shared their comments about the project. Tamegai spoke about the excitement of receiving her first leading role, while Suzuki discussed the challenge of maintaining Sakurai’s cool and composed personality amid all the comedy.
For now, these are the three confirmed main cast members. The cast looks promising, and I’m curious to see how they’ll bring these characters to life. As more characters are introduced in future announcements, we may also get to meet more voice actors. Until then, let’s wait and see how everything turns out!
My Personal Thoughts
Well, as I told you guys earlier, I didn’t know about this series before the announcement. But while researching it, I found out that it already has a live-action adaptation! And to be honest, I find that quite unique and interesting.
Since the original manga is a four-panel comedy, I’m curious to see how its humour and storytelling will be adapted into an anime. Will we get to see more of the original material? How will the jokes work in animated form? Well, I guess we’ll have to wait and see!
The teaser PV and everything we’ve seen so far have definitely piqued my interest. It doesn’t look like the kind of super-serious anime we usually associate with intense action or high school romance. Instead, it seems like we’re getting something more comedy-focused, with an unusual workplace and an even more unusual job!
I haven’t watched the live-action adaptation or read the manga yet, so I can’t really say much about how the story will turn out. But based on the information available so far, the premise looks promising, and I’d like to give it a try.
To be honest, I’m actually thinking about watching the live-action adaptation before the anime premieres. Or maybe I’ll read the manga first. Well, I haven’t decided yet, so let’s see what happens!
And that’s about it for today. Before you go, I know this blog might feel a little different from my usual anime updates. Maybe it doesn’t have the same energy I normally bring, but perhaps that’s because I genuinely need a little rest. Hopefully, tomorrow’s blog will be more energetic!
And for today I apologise. 😅 Anyway, this is the information I could bring you today, even if my humour and energy weren’t quite at their usual levels. I hope you still enjoyed reading it!
