Well, looks like 86 EIGHTY-SIX is becoming a topic of discussion among anime fans once again. And why is it getting attention again? Well, there’s a reason for that. 😅
If you’ve been waiting for more news about the anime, we finally have something interesting to discuss. The franchise has been getting attention every few months, and yep, we’re talking about 86 EIGHTY-SIX again!
So, let’s get straight to the point.
Is Season 2 finally coming?
The answer is simple: we don’t know yet. As of October 12, 2026, we don’t have an official confirmation of a new season from the production committee or the studio.
But there’s a reason fans are talking about the franchise again.

A major event celebrating the 10th anniversary of 86 EIGHTY-SIX has been announced for February 2027. At the same time, the light novel has entered its final arc, leaving readers wondering whether Volume 15 could be the final volume or bring the story closer to its conclusion.
With these developments, fans have plenty of reasons to look forward to what’s coming next. Could the anniversary event bring us an update about the anime? Is there a chance we’ll finally hear something about Season 2? And what can we expect from the light novel’s upcoming volume?
Today, we’re going to discuss all of that, including what the anniversary event is about, what we know about the light novel, and whether there’s any real information about the anime’s continuation.
But remember, there’s a difference between an exciting possibility and an official announcement. We’ll keep that distinction clear as we go.
So, let’s get started!
Hello again Welcome back to another topic on Anime Addictive. Today, we’re talking about 86 EIGHTY-SIX’s 10th-anniversary event and whether Season 2 could finally be on the way.

Is It Season 2 or Season 3? Clearing Up the Confusion
Well, before we go any further, you might be wondering something: Didn’t Season 2 already come out? 😅
That’s a fair question, and I want to clear up some of the confusion before we continue.
The main reason for this confusion is how the anime’s episodes and parts are listed on different platforms. On Crunchyroll, for example, the listing you’re referring to presents the anime as a single season, with the two parts grouped together and additional episodes listed separately.
So, you might be thinking, doesn’t that mean two seasons already exist, with around 12 episodes in each?
Well, not exactly.
The first season was released in two parts, also known as cours. The first part had 11 regular episodes, while the second part continued the story with another 12. The official anime website itself refers to the second part as the second cour.
Now, here’s where the confusion gets even more interesting.
On Crunchyroll, the series listing includes the 23 numbered episodes, along with three additional entries:
- Special episode: The Poppies Bloom Red on the Battlefield
- Episode 18.5: If There’s Something Worth Dying For
- Episode 21.5: At Least as a Human
If we count every entry shown on that listing, we get 26 entries in total. But that doesn’t mean the anime has 26 regular episodes, because those three additional entries are specials or recap-related episodes.
So, what’s the simplest way to understand all of this?
The anime’s first season was split into two cours, but that doesn’t automatically make the second cour an officially numbered Season 2. Some platforms and databases may display the information differently, which is why fans can get confused when discussing the next installment.
For our article, we’ll continue using Season 2 as the familiar search term when discussing a possible continuation, while explaining that the original anime was released in two parts.
That way, readers can understand what we’re talking about without getting caught up in the naming confusion. 😅

What Is the 86 EIGHTY-SIX 10th Anniversary Project All About?
The 86 EIGHTY-SIX franchise has officially announced a 10th-anniversary project for 2027, featuring a special event and plans that take both Japanese and international audiences into account.
According to current reporting, the major event is expected to take place in February 2027. That timing makes sense, considering the first light novel by Asato Asato was published on February 10, 2017.
Since then, the franchise has attracted readers and anime fans around the world. And we have proof of that right here! For example, you’re reading this blog, and I’m writing it because we’re still talking about 86 EIGHTY-SIX nearly a decade later. 😅
But what makes this announcement so interesting?
Well, the second cour of Season 1 concluded in March 2022, and fans have been waiting for official news about a continuation ever since. Naturally, this anniversary project gives us another reason to keep an eye on the franchise.
Of course, an anniversary event doesn’t automatically mean that Season 2 will be announced. Personally, though, I have a hunch that the event might focus more on the light novel and the franchise as a whole than exclusively on the anime. And that’s my expectation, not a confirmed detail about the event.
Still, there have been rumours about a possible anime continuation for quite some time, including speculation around December last year. We’ll discuss those rumours later.
But first, let’s look at what’s happening with the light novel and why it could be an important part of the discussion surrounding the franchise’s future.

Could Volume 15 Bring the Light Novel to Its Conclusion?
Now, let’s talk about the light novel, because there’s another reason fans are paying so much attention to 2027.
Long-time readers will already know this, but if you haven’t been following the light novel, here’s the important part: 86 EIGHTY-SIX has entered its final arc.
The latest Japanese main-series release is Volume 14, Paint It Black, which was released on September 10, 2025. The official publisher described it as the beginning of the final arc.
And that’s where things get interesting, because Volume 15 is also scheduled for early 2027.
And since the story is already in its final arc,, there’s a possibility that Volume 15 could bring us closer to the climax—or perhaps even conclude the series.
However, we shouldn’t automatically assume that Volume 15 will be the final volume. Reaching the final arc of a story doesn’t necessarily mean that everything will be resolved in the same book. The author could still need additional volumes to bring the story to a proper conclusion.
At the moment, there’s no official confirmation that Volume 15 will be the final volume. But it’s understandable why readers are wondering about it, considering the story has already entered its final arc.
So, could Volume 15 be the final volume? It’s a possibility, but not a confirmed fact.
We’ll have to wait for official information to know for sure. And with 2027 approaching, it’ll be interesting to see whether we finally get an update about the light novel’s future.
For now, let’s keep this as a possibility rather than a confirmed announcement. 😅

Is 86 EIGHTY-SIX finally getting a second season?
Well, you might have heard these rumours already. I’ve been hearing them since December last year, and this isn’t the first time we’ve heard talk about a possible continuation.
But why has this rumour started attracting more attention again?
Well, there’s a reason for that. The information originally came from an account that had previously shared leaks about other projects, some of which later turned out to be true.
Back in December 2025, that same account reportedly shared information suggesting that 86 EIGHTY-SIX was in production and that an announcement could be coming soon.
However, from December 2025 until October 2026, we haven’t received any further confirmation that establishes those claims as official news.
As for the latest developments, the 10th-anniversary project is the main reason the franchise is getting attention again. We also continue to receive updates about the light novel from time to time, but that doesn’t confirm anything about a new anime season.
And honestly, I know how long fans have been waiting. The second cour of the original anime concluded in March 2022, and we’ve been waiting for news about a continuation ever since. And you’re not alone in that wait—I’m looking forward to it, too. 😅
But now that the anniversary project has been announced, could we finally hear something about the anime?
Personally, I think there’s a good reason to be hopeful. I’m not saying an announcement is guaranteed, but I do think the anniversary event gives us something worth looking forward to.
Why? Because there’s still source material available for a continuation, and the light novel has entered its final arc. The franchise also has an audience in Japan and internationally, which makes the anniversary an interesting opportunity to share major news.
Of course, having enough source material doesn’t automatically mean a new season will be produced. And even if the anniversary event takes place in February 2027 as expected, we can’t guarantee that the anime will be discussed at all. It could bring a major surprise, or the organisers could focus on other aspects of the franchise.
That’s simply how these events work. We have to wait and see what they decide to announce.
Still, I wouldn’t be surprised if we received some important news about the anime’s future. Perhaps we’ll hear about production, perhaps we’ll get another update about the franchise, or perhaps nothing about a new season will be announced at all.
For now, these are possibilities—not confirmed developments.
And let’s not forget that the light novel itself is approaching its conclusion. With the story already in its final arc, I can’t help wondering whether we’ll see more news about the anime as the source material moves closer to its ending.
So, will 86 EIGHTY-SIX get a second season? I think there’s reason to remain hopeful, but we don’t have enough official information to say that it’s happening.
We’ll have to wait for the expected anniversary event and see what comes next.
Let’s hope that, as the light novel moves toward its conclusion, fans finally get the anime news they’ve been waiting for. And whether that hope turns into an official announcement remains to be seen.
For now, all we can do is wait. 😅

My Personal Thoughts
Well, 86 EIGHTY-SIX is one of those franchises that I’ve followed quite closely. It’s one of those stories that I consider among the best I’ve watched. And honestly, I don’t even need to explain how much I love its opening and ending songs. ❤️
I don’t understand the lyrics, and I’m guessing many of you reading this blog don’t either—unless, of course, you know Japanese. 😅 But whenever those songs play, we know exactly where they’re coming from. We might not understand every word, but we still love the music.
And it’s not just about the songs. The entire presentation, the writing, and the way the story is told are what make 86 EIGHTY-SIX so special to me.
I’ve only watched the anime, though. I haven’t read the light novel, so I don’t know all the details of the story beyond the anime adaptation. But I genuinely want to see the story continue and find out how everything unfolds as the light novel approaches its conclusion.
Let’s hope the 10th-anniversary event gives anime fans a little more hope. If it doesn’t, well, I might have to wait until the light novel series is complete before buying the entire collection. 😅
And even if we get another anime season before then, I’ll still want to buy the complete light novel collection. That’s a separate matter, though!
For now, let’s just wait and see what happens.
Final Thoughts
Well, I guess that’s everything I wanted to cover today.
I know today’s blog might be a little different from our usual updates. I tried to put as much energy into it as I could, even though I wasn’t feeling my best.
And before I go, I also want to apologise for the three-day break. There were some issues happening in my country, and I was personally affected by the situation as well. But as soon as I was able to return, I wanted to get back to covering the news.
I’ll talk about that situation another time. For today, let’s leave it here.
Hopefully, the 10th-anniversary event brings us something exciting. Whether it’s news about the anime, an update on the light novel, or something else entirely, let’s wait for the official announcements.
Now, let’s move on to the final section!
