If you thought the Naruto franchise was done surprising us, well, it looks like that’s not the case!

Why am I saying this? Because the franchise has just announced something new, and it’s something that could surprise fans all over the world.

Now, you might be thinking about those new anime episodes that were announced a few years ago during Naruto’s 20th-anniversary celebrations. Well, no! I’m not talking about those.

Actually, the Naruto manga franchise has officially announced a brand-new manga titled NARUTO: SHADOW RISING!

And here’s the part that makes this announcement even more interesting: Kishimoto-sensei himself is drawing the new manga!

The announcement was made during the Naruto: What’s Next? special stage at New York Comic Con 2026. Along with the announcement, we also received a teaser revealing some glimpses of the new project. And honestly, after looking at that teaser, I have to say it looks really good!

Naruto Shadow Rising: A New Manga Is Officially Announced!

Let’s get straight to the point—the news you clicked on and the announcement you’ve been waiting to hear about!

Well, yes, it’s officially announced, and I’m not making things up here! The announcement was made on October 10, 2026, during the Naruto: What’s Next? special stage at New York Comic Con.

To be honest, I, along with many other fans, was expecting an update about those new anime episodes that were announced during the franchise’s 20th-anniversary celebrations. But we didn’t get that. Instead, we got something entirely different that many of us probably weren’t expecting!

During the special stage, the franchise revealed that a new Naruto manga, drawn by Masashi Kishimoto-sensei, is in development. The official Naruto website subsequently identified the project as NARUTO: SHADOW RISING.

And honestly, seeing Kishimoto-sensei’s name attached to a new manga is enough to make this announcement worth discussing!

The announcement teaser featured manga storyboards showing the faces of the previous Hokage overlooking the Hidden Leaf Village, with the Seventh Hokage’s face still under construction.

We also got glimpses of Naruto holding up the Hokage hat, Kakashi smiling, Sasuke standing confidently, and Sakura lovingly looking at a baby. The teaser also included a scene depicting Naruto and Sasuke clashing.

And to be honest, that part gave me goosebumps! 😭

It’s quite a combination of images, isn’t it? The teaser gives us glimpses of familiar characters while leaving fans wondering what this new story will actually be about.

However, we should remember that these teaser images don’t reveal the complete story. Although we have an official announcement and a few interesting glimpses, the creators haven’t explained everything about the project yet.

So, let’s take a closer look at what we know and what we can reasonably expect from this new manga.

What Could Naruto Shadow Rising Be About?

Well, before we start, I just want to clarify something: what I’m about to discuss is my own theory, not officially confirmed information. It’s based on what I understand from the announcement, the teaser illustration, and the title itself.

So, what could Naruto: Shadow Rising actually be about?

Well, I think it might explore a part of Naruto’s story that we haven’t properly seen yet—the period when he became the Seventh Hokage.

Why do I think that? The teaser features familiar characters, including Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, and Sakura. It also includes imagery connected to the Hokage monument and the Hidden Leaf Village.

And honestly, the title Shadow Rising makes me think about Sasuke and his role as the Shadow Hokage!

For those who don’t know, Sasuke serves as Naruto’s shadow, working behind the scenes to protect the village. So, the title got me wondering whether this new manga could explore that period of their lives in greater detail.

We know how the original Naruto story ended, and we’ve also seen how Boruto began. But what about the journey in between? What happened during the period when Naruto became Hokage, and what were Naruto and Sasuke doing during that time?

Could this new manga finally explore some of those missing pieces?

Of course, these are only my thoughts. The official announcement hasn’t confirmed the story’s timeline or explained what the manga will cover. My theory comes from the title and the illustrations released with the announcement, rather than any confirmed plot details.

But if this theory turns out to be true, then honestly, we’ll finally get a piece of the story that many of us have wanted to see! 😭

I’m genuinely excited to find out what Kishimoto-sensei has planned for us. For now, though, we’ll have to wait for the next official announcement to learn what Naruto: Shadow Rising is really about.

When Will We Get More Information About Naruto Shadow Rising?

Well, I have some great news for this one! Why? Because when the new manga was announced, we were also given an idea of when we could expect to hear more about it.

According to the official announcement, further details about Naruto: Shadow Rising are expected to be revealed during the Naruto Jump Super Stage at Jump Festa 2027, scheduled for December 19–20, 2026, at Makuhari Messe in Japan.

That gives fans a specific event to look forward to!

However, the announcement doesn’t confirm that the manga itself will be released on those dates. Instead, the event is where we’re expected to receive more information about the project.

Hopefully, we’ll learn more about the manga’s release date, story, and other important details during the event. But that’s still something we’ll have to wait for, as no such details have been confirmed yet.

For now, here’s what we know: Naruto: Shadow Rising is an officially announced new manga drawn by Masashi Kishimoto-sensei, we’ve received a teaser, and further information is expected at Jump Festa 2027.

Well, I’m genuinely excited about this announcement! I’m so happy that I honestly don’t even have the right words to describe how I felt when I first heard about it. ❤️

And if you don’t know about the Naruto franchise, then I’m sorry, but I might have to question whether you’ve been living under a rock! 😂

Why? Because we’re talking about Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach—three of the legendary Big Three of anime! If you don’t know about these three, then I honestly don’t know which era you’re living in or which rock you’ve been hiding under. 😅

Well, jokes aside, let’s talk about what I actually think about this announcement.

Not going to lie, when I first heard about the announcement, I was expecting news about those unreleased anime episodes that were announced during the Naruto 20th-anniversary celebrations. We still haven’t received those episodes, so I thought we might finally get an update about them.

But an entirely new manga? I genuinely wasn’t expecting that. Not even a little!

When I first saw the announcement, I had to check it multiple times to make sure I wasn’t misunderstanding something. And once I confirmed it, I was absolutely thrilled!

Now, let’s talk about the teaser itself. It was super epic! Absolutely OP! 🔥

Honestly, every scene caught my attention, but there’s one thing I particularly want to know more about: that fight between Naruto and Sasuke shown in the teaser.

Why were they fighting? Was it something from their past, or is it a scene from the new manga that we’ll get to see in the future? I really want to know what was happening there!

And that’s one of the reasons I’m so excited about this project. There are so many questions, and I can’t wait to see what Kishimoto-sensei has planned for us.

To be honest, when it comes to major anime announcements, Naruto news hits differently. It’s one of those franchises where a single announcement can get fans talking everywhere.

And sometimes, it’s like every other anime project is on one side, while a major announcement involving Naruto—or even one of the Big Three—is on the other! 😂

That’s how big this franchise is, and that’s exactly why I’m so excited to see what comes next. ❤️
